Where will We Stay?

We'll stay in a beautiful, welcoming 2-bedroom home in the parish town of Mosteiros, on the western end of the island, known for it's spectacular sunsets and beach. It's being rented to me by a dear friend while she's away for the summer/fall, so it has a sweet personal touch and truly feels like home. I'll be there a full week before you arrive.

AZORES ISLANDS: INTRO FAQ'S

WHERE IS IT? The Azores Islands are an archipelago of Portuguese islands located roughly halfway between North America and Europe.

WHICH ISLAND? Sao Miguel Island, our destination, is about 1450 km (900 miles) west of Lisbon, Portugal and about 4,000 km (2500 miles) east of New York.

HOW DO YOU GET THERE? There are nonstop flights to Sao Miguel Island (Ponta Delgada, PDL) from Newark & Boston) (5-5.5 hours), Amsterdam (4.5 hours), London (4.0 hours), Lisbon (2.5 hours) and many European cities.

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE THERE? The Azores are at about the same latitude as Norfolk, Virginia and southernmost mainland Portugal and Spain. The islands also sit right in the middle of the North Atlantic drift--a warm current originating in the Gulf Stream, giving the islands a surprisingly-warm climate.

WHAT ABOUT WEATHER IN EARLY OCTOBER? Early October on Sao Miguel is generally very pleasant--mild, somewhat humid, and still feeling more like late summer than autumn.
